Loki had always been very good at deciding what mattered.
It was a survival skill, honed young and sharpened often: choose the important thing, discard the rest, and keep moving. Pain rarely made the cut. Pain was common, expected, easily rationalised. Pain was something you endured quietly, because reacting to it only invited questions, and questions—historically—had never ended well.
So when the blade slid between his ribs, low and to the left, slipping past bone with an unpleasant intimacy, Loki noticed it only long enough to register that it would be inconvenient later.

After Asgard’s fall, Loki continues doing what he’s always done: enduring quietly, making himself useful, and refusing to slow down. Summary
Loki escaped Asgard's dungeons only to be captured by humans. Across the hall, fellow prisoner Bucky Barnes offers what comfort he can. Sometimes that's sympathy. Sometimes it's terrible singing.
Set post Thor: TDW but pre-Ragnarok and pre-Civil War, when Bucky is in the wind.
Story is mostly finished but not entirely. Update speed may depend on my fickle mood. 😁

Summary
(Diverges from canon before Phase Two: assumes Loki escaped from Asgard after the events of 'The Avengers' and has continued to make trouble for the team.)
After a battlefield taunt gets much more of a reaction than expected, Tony realizes that at least some of Loki's vindictiveness may be influenced by outside factors.
Since Asgard's punishments just seem to keep making Loki angrier, and it's Earth that keeps on paying the price, Tony decides to take matters into his own hands. Besides, Loki keeps showing up to talk to him, so he doesn't have much of a choice. He just wishes he knew what the Devil he was doing.
Loki's volatile and dangerous and Tony may have bitten off more than he can chew, but slowly something grows between them. Love isn't a magic cure, but between them maybe they can alleviate the symptoms.

Summary
Loki may be trying to curb his use of magic, but he still feels drawn to magical artifacts. Few are as powerful as the ancient scroll hidden beneath the desert sand and rumoured to grant power over all of creation, living or dead...if one doesn't mind being the target of a rather nasty curse. Loki has a plan to get around all that, of course. All it needs is the help of a few friends, a little luck, and the ability to resist his baser instincts.
Maybe two out of three will be enough.
