He didn’t relent, holding her, taking in shallow breaths as his hands traveled up and down her back. She remembered how he’d held her in caves and under trees, early on during their lifetime. How his warmth had always kept her stable, and never made her fear. She’d called that home.
But at that moment, home was standing in the middle of Lilith’s living room, with the clock tick, tick, ticking in the background, only loud enough to drown out the racing of their hearts.
“I missed you,” he murmured into her ear, refusing to let go. “I missed you so much.”
Eve shut her eyes, cheek against his chest as she allowed the stillness to consume her.
“I missed you, too.”
