He recognized the dynamics by now: knew when to laugh along the jokes and when to stay quiet in the shadows, had to learn the hard way who he could trust, not only for himself but for Leslie, too. They knew how lucky they were to have found each other in the middle of all this shitstorm, and they didn't expect to find family anywhere else that wasn't the two of them.

Summary
He wishes that he didn’t have to go back to the commission, to his Handlers, to being a symbol of freedom bound in chains. But, realistically, what else is he going to do? Admitting it, even quietly to himself, sends sharp pains through what’s left of his own sense of belonging, but he can’t stay here.
As friendly as the league is, as much as they seem to almost care, as much as he wants them to, they’re too different from him. Hawks is a hero, and the others-
They just aren’t.
They’re not really villains anymore, not to him, but they aren’t good; they kill people.
Hawks ignores the part of him that screams that he’s killed people. It’s not that it doesn’t matter when he kills someone, it’s not, really, but he has orders. The league has each other, and he has orders.
So he needs to go back.
Or: Hawks still doesn't think the league cares, so they burn down the commission to show him they do
