Summary
Ed’s seen plenty of folks run a marathon.
He’s also seen plenty of folks walk a marathon.
But he’s never seen anyone race walk a marathon. Until now.
Ed notices the cadence before anything else. It’s all hips. Hips swiveling and dipping like those of a supermodel, if that model were crossing a football field at the same pace the others made it down the catwalk. Arms pumping double time but no bounce in the shoulders—eerily smooth from the chest up. And while on the topic of chest…this might be the broadest chest Ed’s ever seen on an endurance athlete. A luminous pink shirt hugs his biceps, the swell of his tits, the small peaks of his—Jesus. With the rain and the chill, someone’s gonna get an eye poked out.
Ed hopes it’s him.
He doesn’t need both of his eyes.
or:
This blond guy race walking a marathon is the sexiest person Ed Teach has ever seen. And Ed's...fascinated.

Summary
Maybe if Ed just pulls Stede closer…that’s it, just a slice of chilly air between them, Stede’s sunshine smile. Ed wants to steal it. With his lips.
This is some modern AU, snowed-in, power outage, first date fluff. Written for Fluffvember 2024 day 9 prompts “huddling for warmth” and “can you keep a secret?” Alternating POV but a little more of Stede’s perspective.

Summary
Stede kept his gaze trained downward as he tried to quell his mounting panic, so he saw the boots first as they emerged through the swinging door, those black lace-up boots. Then the rest. Long legs. Black pants. Black shirt. Bare arms with all those familiar tattoos. The snake. The shark. The sweet mermaid. Ed had worn his leather jacket through the whole of Stede’s sessions with him for a solid year before he started removing it. Now Stede could probably draw those tattoos if asked, he had spent so much time in close proximity. He had always been careful not to stare, but he learned the shape of each the same way he learned the lyrics to “Let it Go” just from hearing it play over and over on his laptop for Louis while cooking dinner. He knew the ones on Ed’s left leg even better. He'd never see them again. Ed’s hair was longer than Stede remembered, the silver reflecting the light like it always did, the way it played on the curls giving the illusion of movement. Stede forced himself to meet Ed’s eyes and paint on a pleasant smile. He was met with an expression of studied neutrality.
“Stede. What are you doing here?”

Summary
Well, if that didn’t do something funny to Stede’s stomach! “Oh?” he asked, hoping it didn’t sound too intrigued, that it maybe landed just this side of propriety. “Well, then, maybe I should hire you as a consultant! I could write the first queer cowboy novel with a bit of veracity.”
Was he flirting? He figured he probably was. It hadn’t been an intentional choice, per se, but the heart wants what the heart wants, and Ed was incredibly attractive, and he seemed like the kind of man whose company Stede could really enjoy– the kind who might even enjoy his.
“I’d be willing to give it a look,” Ed said, and it sounded very much like he might be flirting, too. His chin had taken on a delightful downward tilt and his eyes looked downright mischievous. “You said you didn’t have plans tonight?”

Summary
Ed shrugs one shoulder. His eyes wander the party. “Y’know. If you’ve got no one to kiss at midnight…and I’ve got no one to kiss at midnight…we could maybe– well, might as well just, I don’t know, kiss each other?”
(or: Ed and Stede's friendship group all have a New Year's kiss locked in for midnight, except them...)

Summary
Stede Bonnet has been dating Edward Teach for a few weeks, and he's never felt so attracted to someone in his life. So why does he keep freezing up whenever Ed touches him?
I wrote this as an exploration of communication in a new relationship, and the importance of Talking It Through. And in keeping with fanfiction tradition, I gave Stede a load of issues and then gave him the perfect boyfriend to work them through with.
