Summary
On the third night, when the moon was glowing, he finally heard it: her voice. She was singing a lullaby, or perhaps a lament. He scratched at his head, dirty fingers tangling with messy blond locks. With trepidation, he climbed the steps up toward her.
Moonlight spilled in from behind him, and beyond his own shadow he saw her. She must have been kneeling in the shallow pool of water, for her dress was damp up to her thighs. Now, the woman sat upon that odd stone, seated so he could see her in profile. Her eyes were closed as she sang. Her hair was dark honey-yellow, with strands glowing gold as the moonlight struck them.
The space of the cavern didn’t do her voice justice, but her song was powerful, and for a moment the man was spellbound by her beauty. She wore the dress he’d seen many, many times, whenever they’d climb to one of the sacred springs. Somehow, tonight, it made her seem ethereal. He’d always thought the outfit made her appear elegant, that much closer to the Goddess; now, she seemed almost frail. Exposed.
He took a step closer.

Summary
Aeris leaned into him and for a heart-stopping moment Cloud thought she was going to kiss him. The moment passed and instead her lips drew level with his ear; he felt an odd mixture of relief and disappointment. She was so close he could smell her; the scent of dirt and flowers clung to her skin.
"It's a shame Mom is in this evening," she said, just above a whisper. "Otherwise we could have had some fun together. If you'd like... Cloud." Warm breath tickled his ear, his blood pulsed and he hardened as his mind scrambled to parse the words. He tried to discern if she was implying what his snap interpretation indicated. He turned his head and her gaze slid to meet his, her smile quirking a little more. "Maybe if you slept in a bit in the morning, after Mom goes to work... Well, then we could see about relaxing a bit before we get you back to your friends."

They grew close during those times together, but soon part ways due to the necessities of the situations. Since then, neither of them have left each others minds.
