He grimaces instead when Robin stops so suddenly that she drops the top book from the comically large stack she’s carrying to the front display. She carefully sets the rest down, turns, then responds so loudly it makes Steve flinch, “What?!”

The anniversary of Eddie's death has always hit Steve pretty hard. This year is no different, only he feels like the entirety of his life has been building atop of his shoulders. All the nightmares and regrets and fights. He can barely take care of himself anymore. His friends are worried, and he doesn't know how to convince them all he's fine. Hell, he can't even convince himself.
He finds he doesn't care. Not when he's been dead since 1986, waiting for the world to catch up.
But then everything changes when the stalking shadow he assumed was all a part of his imagination begins killing those around him. With all the death and blood and gore, he realizes that maybe living isn't so bad.

Ever since he found a tiny bat sleeping on his pillow, Steve isn't lonely anymore.
Little Vampire Eddie, who isn't a bat after all, has become his best friend.
With Eddie the night isn't so scary anymore, and being alone has never felt less lonely.The only downside to being his friend is that he makes Steve's tummy feel all funny.
