Summary
In "Captain America: Civil War", there are two pieces of seemingly throw-away information about Steve and Bucky's past:
-One of Bucky’s brainwashing trigger words is “Семнадцать” (Russian for “seventeen”). According to Shuri of Wakanda, these triggers are tied to past memories with deep emotions and traumas and Bucky is a year older than Steve in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
-Brock Rumlow (aka "Crossbones") taunts Steve to distract him from a bomb he is carrying, telling Steve: “Your pal, your buddy, your Bucky...He remembered you, got all weepy about it," and it WORKS. Steve completely misses the bomb, almost leading to an entire market full of innocent people being killed. Steve later says, “when Rumlow said Bucky, I was that 16-year-old kid in Brooklyn again” to explain his emotional distraction.These two strong emotional ties seem to indicate that something serious must have happened with the two of them and their relationship in 1934. I attempted to capture a moment in time that we otherwise can only imagine.

"If her ears go back and her horn lowers, then we need to be concerned, but Steve...I think she likes you. This is bonding behavior."
Steve doesn't dare take his eyes off the unicorn again; she's taking small, almost mincing steps toward him, her tail flicking back and forth, her ears forward, her nose snuffling. She looks cuter now, her eyes no longer so frantic, her teeth no longer bared. "Bonding behavior?" he whispers in as incredulous a tone as he can manage.
"Have you ever wanted a special animal friend?" Bucky says. "Because I think you're about to get one."

Summary
In a world where supernatural creatures run free, the super serum that changed Steve Roger’s life turned him into a werewolf. Very few people were told the truth as Captain America shot to fame and had to deal with his confusing transformation alone. At the same time, vampire-run HYDRA was trying to turn the world into their feeding ground. When HYDRA re-captured Bucky Barnes after he fell, they decided to combine their makeshift serum with their natural abilities, creating a vampire stronger than ever before to do their dirty deeds for them. For 70 years he was their shadowy assassin- until Captain Rogers foiled their plan, and was reunited briefly with Bucky before the vampire fled. Things then came to a head for Rogers as the Accords were presented, requiring registration (read: control) of all supernatural folk. Rogers left behind the mantle he’d held up for so long in protest, found Bucky once again, and retreated to fight this war from the shadows.

Bucky Barnes could deal with many things. Seventy years of torture by Hydra? No problem. Aliens invading New York? Also not a problem. But an actual walking unicorn? Now, that was way above his pay grade, and he wanted nothing to do with it.
The reason was very simple. Unicorns were creatures of pure good, and Bucky was practically everything but that. In fact, with his bloody history in mind, the only attention he would get from the holy creature was a whole load of horse shit dumped on his face (if it didn’t trample him to death out of sheer disgust first).
Then one fine day, a tiny blond man named Steve suddenly showed up at the Avengers tower, armed with bright blue eyes and free samples of apple pie to celebrate the opening of his brand-new café. Steve was cheerful, sweet and kind, the definition of a literal human unicorn, and Bucky was about to find out just how literal that was.

Bucky had followed him to the kitchen and was kneeling naked in the doorway. He was staring up at Steve with the slightly glassy expression Steve knew all too well, although he'd never seen it like this.
Bucky called it going into a pattern, not programming, because his actions weren't predetermined; he just had a limited range of responses to whatever was happening around him.
