Summary
If Bucky had known that he was going to end up in some cheesy 80's crossover between Sam's time in the Falcon program and the movie Top Gun, he would've asked Sam some questions beforehand, like:
Were you into guys or did young Sam really just flirt with everyone like that? Nobody, like, died horribly during the training part of this program, did they? Because these seem very unstable. And was it normal for the "Take My Breath Away" guitar riff to play every time we made eye contact?
He hadn't known, though, that Scarlet Witch from SHEIN would look into their heads and pull this horrible storyline out, so he just had to keep his head above the water long enough to get out of there.

Summary
“I won’t laugh.” Bucky straightens out both his back and his expression and scoots closer, knee colliding with Sam’s own. He keeps it there; it feels hot and solid, even through the kevlar. “C’mon, I promise. Just tell me.”
Sam turns it over in his head for a long moment. Swallows hard. Rubs his palms across his thighs.
“Okay,” he says, looking away. “Do you believe in ghosts, man?”
Bucky laughs, the asshole.
Sam has been haunted all his life. This is the first time he's ever thought of telling anyone about it.

Summary
“Bucky—“ Joaquin starts. “Er— I mean… Sargent Barnes? Senator? Whatever, just listen. He isn’t conscious yet, and—“
“I just want to check on him,” Bucky says, “He doesn’t have to be awake for me to see if he’s okay.”
“Well— yeah,” Joaquin says. “But listen, he’s— he’s different.”
And this, finally, has Bucky stop in his tracks, in the middle of a sterile corridor with painfully bright fluorescents humming overhead.
“Different?” Bucky repeats. “Different how?”
“They did things to him,” Joaquin says. He’ll hardly meet his eyes. “He- He was awake, sort of, when we found him. And he wasn’t— I mean, he wasn’t not Sam, but he was… wrong. In shock, maybe, but they did things to him, experiments, and—“
And maybe Joaquin thought this would make Bucky hesitate. Maybe he thought Bucky would listen more once he heard the gravity of the situation.
Instead, Bucky sets off in a run.

Or rather, that fic where Sam Wilson gets actual wings after being captured and experimented on, and Bucky Barnes is there to help him learn how to live again.
