Summary
He left, and when he told Maddie she cried and Buck held her until she stopped shaking. He stayed for a dinner he made, and then well past Jee-Yun's bedtime and Chim had told him, seriously, when he was gathering his things and Maddie had fallen asleep on the couch, to do something that should have been simple. "Call Eddie."
"Sure," Buck said with a half smile and a bubbling in his gut.
He wasn't going to call Eddie. Eddie was busy, and Buck was an adult, and, in the grand scheme of things, his mother dying wasn't anything for anyone to worry about. She was dead, Eddie Diaz could stubbornly restart Buck's heart, but Margaret Buckley was well past the ressusitation point. Eddie was a lot of things (smart, capable, funny, handsome, adorable, so, so, so kind), but he wasn't a necromancer.
Besides, what had sent him back to Texas was much more important than Buck dead mother.

"So why are you going to Texas?" Eddie gestured towards the big, lit up Christmas tree in the corner of the room. "So close to the holidays."
"Work." Buck said easily.
"What's work?"
He rolled his lips and seemed to think the question over, "I guess you could say this is a volunteer trip. My actual job is working with reindeer."
Eddie chuckled, "Reindeer?" He shook his head. "Like the type that fly?"
"That's a specific breed." Buck winked. "Yeah, reindeer. I'm a specialist."
"And you're volunteering in El Paso?"
"Yeah," Buck shrugged and held up two fingers towards the hostess, gesturing for Eddie to step first after her and towards a table. "Everyone else thought it was a lost cause, but I've been a lost cause before too, so," He shrugged. "I figured why not?"
"And what exactly is this lost cause?" Eddie asked after thanking the hostess and sitting down.
Buck hummed, "Reuniting a family."

Summary
"Eddie,” Buck breathed. “I just want to be married to you.”
“Yeah?” Eddie asked because he felt like he had to say something, like he had to be sure, even with Buck wearing his ring and refusing to take it off even to shower when they got into the accommodations.
“Yeah.” Buck weaved their fingers together, the ring warm against Eddie’s skin, and he lifted their arms up until they were still linked, but resting on the pillow above his head.
Eddie smiled and reached his free hand down to bend Buck’s bad leg at the knee, “Let’s fucking do that, then.” He kissed him, a little messily, hard enough that he could feel Buck’s moan against his lips.
Evan Diaz, Eddie Diaz’s husband.
He really liked the sound of that.

Eddie's healed from being shot, but he's not really healed, is he, when he keeps forgetting he's not in Afghanistan. Buck's still healing too, though it's easier when Eddie's working at dispatch instead of in the field. The boys are engaged, they've got a wedding to plan and family to grow closer to.
It's season five... let's see just how strong these foundations are.

“Listen,” Daniel shifted, his white coat creasing at the elbows. “He's enamored... With the idea of being a firefighter, that is.” Daniel filled in as though Eddie had asked for more information.
“Daniel.” Maddie said in a stern, curt tone. “Stop it.”
“I just think he should know.” Daniel gestured lazily, but defended passionately. “Evan can't do it.”

Three things happen pretty quickly in Eddie’s life: he moves to Boston, he meets a bar manager, and in falling in love with him and all of his mysteries, learns how to fall in love with his life again.

“I’ve got you.” Eddie walked him backwards, a hand careful on the bow of his back to help him stay steady while Buck wasn’t looking where he was stepping. “Our kid’s happy and healthy.” He shrugged. “For once, our world doesn’t feel like it’s on the brink of disaster.” Eddie chuckled and Buck answered it with a quiet laugh of his own. “I love you,” Eddie told him seriously. “And I want to make sure you know how much I love you.”
“Come on, Eddie,” Buck softened, his fingers stroking a careful pattern into the tiny end pieces of his hair. “I know how much you love me.”

“Seen any ghosts lately?” Adriana asked with a laugh. “If you’re ever missing it, you’re more than welcome to investigate with me and Sophie.”
How could he miss it? He lived with it every day. “No,” Eddie said with a shake of his head. “No ghosts lately.”

Eddie Diaz wants nothing to do with the paranormal. He would be perfectly happy if the spirits of the world stopped showing themselves altogether, actually. But when Adriana and Sophia come to town to film on location for their popular YouTube ghost hunting channel and the ghosts in Eddie's life start becoming much more loud and frequent, he gets roped into figuring out just why things in the Los Angeles spiritual world are changing, and not for the better. The children are crying, and Eddie might be the only one who can hear them.
A, hopefully, spooky story featuring a reluctant psychic, sibling bonds, quite a bit of paranormal activity, a blossoming romantic relationship, and a mystery that's begging to be solved.

“This place hasn’t been the same without him.” She provided, rocking on her heels and back up onto her toes.
Please tell him that. Eddie wanted to beg her to - Buck would only believe it when it came from more than him. He trusted Eddie with his life, but Eddie missing working with him was different than the people that teased him daily. “Maybe I’ll stop by when Maddie goes over for dinner.” Chimney said with a hum. “If that’s… if that’s okay?”
“I’m not cleaning my house for you.”
Chimney snorted. “I’d clean my house for you.”
“Great,” Eddie widened his eyes at him. “Then we’ll come to yours.” He tilted his head in a facsimile of a charming smile. “Pick up the floor, will you? I have two giant trip hazards.”

After the truck bombing the dynamics change as Buck learns that some trauma can't be outrun and Eddie learns that some betrayals are just waiting for the right moment to come to light.

“I’m not alone.” Maddie teased with a matching smile of her own.
“You’re right.” Howie conceded. “You have our scary baby girl to hold everyone off.”
Maddie snorted. “I meant -.”
“I know what you meant.” Howie sobered. “I like the idea of him being there even less.”
Maddie’s stomach jolted. “Do you think I made a mistake?” She asked cautiously. “Should I have told him not to come?”
Howie waved a hand to the side. “Nah,” he shrugged. “We both know Buck’s going to Buck.”

Buck groaned. “I don’t want your mother to hate me.”
“Why would she hate you?” Chris wrinkled his nose. “Is this like Adriana? Is it because you’re a boy?”
Partially, Buck wanted to say. Partially also because he was a bit… unlikeable. He didn’t have the best track record with parents, after all. His own two would rather not spend time with him. “Buck’s being dramatic.” Eddie said with an eye-roll, giving him a significant look once Chris looked away. “Grandma doesn’t hate him.”
“I don’t have the best track record with parents.”
“Have you ever met anyone’s parents before?”
“I met Abby’s mom.” Buck pointed out as they left the bedroom, flipping the switch and following the symphony of voices down the hall towards the dining room. “And she died, like, a month into us dating.”
“She was sick,” Eddie said with an incredulous crease to his face. “Meeting you didn’t push her into her grave.”

“He had this whole… prom-posal thing for her planned out.”
Damian wrinkled his forehead. “Prom-posal?”
“He was going to ask her after a game or something. Play a song. Make a sign.” Jon waved a hand as though the plan was inconsequential. As though he didn’t see the point of making a big deal out of it.
Which meant that he wanted to make a big deal out of it.
Damian had the distinct impression that he had been focusing on the wrong part of their conversation.
“That seems excessive.” Damian said simply to say something, his mind stuttered to a stop. This was the problem, perhaps, of the two of them having these talks when Damian was more exhausted from patrol and his general day then he wanted to let on. Jon wasn’t the type to drop bombshells without considering the consequences of how he dropped them and Damian was usually much quicker on the uptake.
Except he seemed to miss this one.
