Summary
Eyebrows furrowing, he opens his eyes to find her staring at him, her eyes wide and shocked. Slowly, her hands fall away from him to her sides as if she’s lost the strength to keep them where they were.
No, wait. She isn’t staring at him. She’s staring over his shoulder at something behind him.
“Detective?” he murmurs softly. “What is it? What’s wrong?” Reflexively, he turns his head to see what’s gotten her attention...and feels his heart come to a sudden, complete stop.
Oh. Chloe is staring at his wings.
