Summary
Wilbur was like the rain, cold and comforting. Sometimes calming and sometimes harsher.
Dream was like a hurricane, always wreaking havoc and always harsh. But unlike rain, in the aftermath of a hurricane, the effects of one seem to linger.
Despite the time that had passed, the effects of Dream's treatment in exile are still there, and Tommy who feels abandoned seeks out someone who claimed to have cared for him.
In retrospect, perhaps Wilbur should not have left Tommy.

He held out his hand on the tabletop. Tommy’s eyes flickered from his open palm to his mask.
“Let me see.” Dream’s fingers curled, coaxing.
He saw the refusal on Tommy’s face. Then hesitation.
Slowly, Tommy laid his arm on the table, a few inches away from Dream’s hand.
A faint smile touched Dream’s lips. That was something.
Or: Two different times Dream treated Tommy’s injuries, once before exile and once during.

Summary
He stood like that for a while. Staring at him. Dark eyes watching him back. It was quiet all around them. The kind of shared quietness you only get in a few instances.
He had somewhat expected Schlatt to have already kicked him out by now. But he had not. For reasons Quackity didn’t care much for.
The whole situation felt tender, in a way. Despite the fact he had only been there for the shorter end of ten minutes. Such an unexpected thing, for him to be using a word with that significance to describe a moment he’s sharing with Schlatt. So much so he would’ve laughed at it, if he wasn’t actively in the situation. Maybe later he’d think back to tonight with regret, shamed by his own foolishness for believing he could have even a second of compassion with the man he unwittingly loved.

Tommy exhales quietly through his nose, gaze still fixed on the fire as Dream’s steady heartbeat continues beside him, unbothered.
Unchanging, while his own refuses to settle.
Tommy tries to shove the resentment down, forcing it deep into his chest where it can’t claw its way back up.

Tommy's a fledgling vampire whose Sire disappeared before he was fully grown. In comparison to other vampires, he's weak. At least it means he can get away with passing as a human, as he's done for several years, and exile shouldn't change that.

“True.” Techno nodded, his pig ears bobbing on his head. Tommy had gone back on their deal first—another name on the list of those who had betrayed him. A list Dream’s name had just joined. “Dream, you know my sayin’—repaying kindness tenfold and injustice a thousand?”
