Summary
It's Shane Hollander's first season in Ottawa, and the whole Centaurs roster is playing better than they ever have. So why won't the press focus on that? Why do he and Ilya keep having to answer questions about their marriage, and not get to talk about the incredible start to the season that their team is having? Maybe if they do one podcast, with hosts who are normal people, they can just tell their whole story and focus on bringing the Stanley Cup to Ottawa.
---
or, Shane and Ilya do a sports podcast run by lesbians for members of the LGBTQ+ community, and the internet reacts.

Summary
Shane gets added to the Ottawa WAG chat not long after Ilya joins the team, fully intending on replying as little as possible. Instead, he finds himself with an unexpected support system when coming out to his teammates goes wrong, and he finds himself traded across the continent.

Summary
In another timeline, Shane and Ilya hook up in room 1410, nothing goes wrong, and everything plays out exactly as we know it.
In this one, Yuna Hollander walks in before Ilya can leave—and the seven-year situationship never gets the chance to start. Instead, they have the conversation they spent years avoiding in canon—and decide to actually try.
With no secret left to fester, Shane and Ilya start dating in 2010. With better support, they make better decisions: their rivalry fizzles out, replaced by a beloved “bromance,” and, after gay marriage is legalized in 2015, they come out to the NHL and the world.
No one believes them.
Or: Somehow, despite Shane and Ilya being out for two years, Scott Hunter is still considered the first openly gay player in the NHL, much to Ilya’s absolute, enduring frustration.

Summary
“You are planning to rob me or what?” He hears Rozanov call, and he can’t help but smile slightly even as he rolls his eyes, closing the door to the linen closet and feeling strangely lighter than when he opened it, reassured that he’s just trying to read into a blank page, that today doesn’t mean anything more than Rozanov doesn’t mind him being around, which is strangely flattering.
“I don’t know,” he calls back. “Don’t Russians like diamonds and fur and stuff? Where should I start looking if I want to know what my options are?”
He hears Rozanov laugh, and it makes him smile.
When he joins him in the living room once more, Rozanov tugs him down to lean against him again. Shane goes easier this time, settling into it, knowing it doesn’t mean anything other than the fact that he just happens to be the closest warm body, the person on Rozanov’s roster who filled today’s slot.
(the tuna meltdown doesn't happen) (this does not mean they get ANY better at communication)
(or: how shane didn't realize he had a boyfriend for several months)
