B is for Blood Loss
***
What's frightening is how little the impact phases Mark. He swerves his van into the next lane, and BUMP: somebody is stumbling backwards, propelled by the force, all floppy hair and gangly limbs. The stranger looks up through the windscreen, and it isn't a stranger at all. It's Carter.

BTHB Prompt- Soup for the Sick
Dr Bogdana Livetsky Romansky has found many unlikely companions throughout her time in the US, but it would be a lie to say she doesn't have favourites. Connie, Haleh, and Carol have been particularly accommodating. Dr Greene is soft spoken and patient.
John Carter, the sweet and clumsy medical student, though- he might be her favourite American of all.

BTHB prompt- Prank Gone Wrong
“Raul?” He calls. His voice is breathy and odd.
And now that he thinks about it, his breathing itself is odd too. Fast. Shallow. And his pulse. And-
“John? Hey, what is it?”
The medic glances back and forth between the road and the wing mirror- he's the one driving now, which at least makes this request a little easier.
“Could you…” Carter clears his throat. It changes nothing. “Could you pull over? Think I might b’about to throw up.”

Summary
All things considered, there are worse places to wake up than the floor of an exam room at County. Better places, too, but Carter learned by the end of his first ER rotation that a large part of being successful in emergency medicine is learning to work with what you actually have as opposed to what you wish you did.
For one thing, waking up on the floor of exam two in what Carter assumes is the middle of a shift means he's (1) waking up at all and (2) oriented to person and place. He's not so sure about the time element of it all, but two out of three ain't bad.

Medwhump May Day 15- Wisdom Teeth Removal
It starts with a simple question in the lounge.
“Dr Greene? Could I… could I ask for a favor?”
And somehow, a week later, Mark is standing with his hands in his pockets, trying and failing to suppress a grin as a very woozy Carter is parked in front of him by a nurse with kind eyes.

Sicktember Day 13- Chronic Illness
His body simply doesn't play by the rules. Which is why it's been pleasantly surprising, over the past few years, that he's been able to keep his malfunctions covert enough to avoid suspicion. Each faint at work has been in the lounge or bathroom, either hidden in plain sight feigning a nap, or curled in a cramped stall with his neck at an angle. When his GI issues play up, he blames bad takeout or, more profitably it seems, his anxiety. During migraine attacks and feverish spells, he tells the others that he's simply feeling a little ‘under the weather’.
And the good thing about County is that everybody's too busy to ask questions.
OR
Unbeknownst to the rest of the ER, Carter has POTS. During his first ever long shift as a surgical intern, it rears its ugly head to make his life a (barely) living hell.

Summary
For a while, he'd kept it hidden beneath forced smiles, continuing to introduce himself to everybody in the hopes that once he grew accustomed to those around him, the nausea would die down.
Except it didn't, and now he's kneeling down in front of Peter Benton's toilet, praying to a God he doesn't believe in that this isn't what he thinks it is.
He cannot be sick.

Summary
The thing about Robert being Mecha Man — the thing that still fucks Victor up, even weeks after he first heard it in the break room — is that Mecha Man is a hero-hero.
Like; a good one.
A memorable one.
A beloved one.
The kind that people have been calling the last of "the old guard" since his debut fifteen whole years ago. The kind that people name to soothe their kids when they're feeling scared. The kind that people actually want to save them when they're in deep shit. They don't hope that "Water Barf Boy" or "Invisibitch" are coming, they pray that Mecha Man is already en route. Victor watched the coverage, after his suit exploded, half because it was all anyone wanted to talk about and half out of morbid curiosity. They talked about the guy like he was a thing to be worshiped — a merciful, loving god on the horizon. An angel dressed in metal.
It was ridiculous.
Or: Sonar, on Robert Robertson III and Mecha Man.
