“姓呢？”他问。
“外环星区居民不需要那种东西。亲缘与氏族关系是自由意志的阻碍，而姓氏存在的唯一作用是防止近亲通婚，当然这在基因病剔除技术成熟后也不是什么问题了。”帮他办理居民登记的人顿了顿，“还是说你有什么爸比问题或是妈咪问题亟需解决？”
“为什么性别是待定？”
“我们提供一整套完善的性别转换服务，包含七种碳基型和三种硅基型，后者需要多付二十三万信用点。所有人的性别都由死亡时的状态决定，在此之前一切自由发挥都被鼓励。”
登记处工作人员再次顿了顿，半透明的微通道矩阵平板从她面前消失。“还有什么要说的吗？”
“有。”他说，“我叫兰多·诺里斯。内环沃金悬臂麦克拉伦级机甲驾驶员，今天我失去了我的搭档。”
