Jayce smiles, “You’re a student? I should have expected as much. And you said your team won the competition, that’s really impressive. Although, I think I know all the guys on the team that won.” Jayce smirks. He feels a little bad, catching her in a lie. Though her reaction isn’t what he’s expecting.
Her eyes widen a fraction, and then dip down, thinking for a beat before a realization seems to hit her and she closes her eyes, frowning. She shakes her head, sips her champagne, “Ah, my apologies. I must have misspoke. Not my team. My, eh, my friend’s team. The team I was rooting for, if you will.” She smiles softly, but there’s a crease in her eyebrows. Jayce’s thumb itches to rub it out, as if he can figure out exactly what it is that’s got her worried. Worried he won’t believe her? But why wouldn’t he believe her?
