    Summary

The vessel cannot be completed one without the other. Ifrit and Phoenix exist as two halves of whole, Joshua had explained after his lone journey into the aetherflooded castle, twin flames, if you will. Clive’s entire world has fallen down around him, that which their very civilization is built upon naught but a lie, and yet Clive knows this without doubt; so long as he lives, so too will his brother.

Deep in Joshua’s very being, Phoenix rustles its wings and reaches for the sliver of itself kept safe within Clive.

clive and joshua survive the fall of origin. with the end of the world out of the way, joshua can focus on his real priority; turning his brother into the well-trained shield he was always meant to be. and clive is so very desperate to please his duke.

    Summary

A day out of Eistla, Clive goes mad.

“You'll feel better with them off.” Clive reaches for him, and grabs his hand. Joshua sends a wild gaze his direction and then stares openly. His palm is hot.

“This must be a jest," Joshua breathes.

Nothing about it seems a joke to Clive. The fire glitters in waves behind his brother and so his edges shine in the same light. It serves only to make him more ethereal. It's as if Clive is kneeled in the throne room of Rosalith, waiting to be blessed a second time—that fire that seared through him, that power, but this is different and not as it should be. He parts his legs wider yet to ease the pressure. Breath comes to him only through struggle, as if he’s run from a long way away. Saliva gathers at the back of his mouth; he swallows. “I think I'm unwell.”

    Summary

“I just wanted to report that due to the revelations of your genetic modifications, you have been withdrawn from consideration for the LMH program,” Zimmerman announces, rocking on his heels.

“Yes, thank you, I gathered as much,” Julian says.

“As such, there’s no reason for me to keep this,” Doctor Zimmerman says, and produces a datarod. “Character interviews; completely worthless now. You might as well have them.”

Julian blinks, thrown off balance. “Thank you?” he tries, taking the datarod.

Zimmerman just shrugs. “There’s nothing to thank me for,” he says. “They’re simply of no use to me.” And without another word, he continues onto his transport.

Reeling from the revelation of his genetic enhancements, Julian is presented with a temptation: the unfiltered opinions of his friends and coworkers. Of course he's going to look - and in so doing, he discovers an interview he wasn't expecting: one Elim Garak. The only thing even more surprising is what Garak has to say.
