    Summary

A freak hurricane traps Shane, Ilya, Rose, Hayden, and Cliff in a Tampa hotel with nowhere to go, too much alcohol, and one Dungeons & Dragons starter set.

What starts as emergency entertainment quickly turns into a disaster of territorial paladins, suspiciously personal roleplay, increasingly obvious secrets, and the realization that Shane’s seven-year rivalry with Ilya may have been badly miscategorized.

Or: five adults, one hotel room, no flights, and absolutely no one using the game to work through anything.

"What now, Daddy?" the boy asked, his voice quiet and curious.

"And now..." Shane smiled, resting his forehead against the boy's. "You're going to come live with me. Forever. Just you and me, buddy."

    Summary

“It’s alright. I’m Shane.” He reached out his hand
The man looked at it, then at him, and finally shook it. “Ilya,” he said.
“Ilya,” Shane echoed. “That’s a good name. Russian?”
“Yes.” he confirmed “You don’t know me?”
Shane tilted his head. “No. Should I?”

Shane Hollander usually walks with his gaze down, but one evening, as he crosses the bridge on his way home from work, he notices a man with piercing blue eyes and, for reasons he can’t quite explain, finds himself unable to look away.

Ilya Rozanov has just been traded to the Ottawa Centaurs. One evening, on a bridge overlooking the Ottawa River, he just want to disappear, until a young man with freckles reaches out a hand to him.

    Summary

“...Montreal Metros to acquire center Ilya Rozanov from the Boston Raiders for the upcoming season, in exchange for center Fenwick and goalie Grayson. A hefty price to pay for the Boston center, especially considering the two teams have sustained a bitter rivalry for years. But that might just be the psychology behind the trade. I think I speak for all hockey fans when I say I'm dying to see how the Metros will play with a reformed enemy on their side. And it's no secret that we've all wondered about the day that Rozanov and Hollander are the same side of the ice. The only thing left to ask is who will center who..."

The anchor continues as a clip of Rozanov from a post-game interview last year plays—he’s shirtless and sweaty, smirking into the camera. And then he does that…that wink. Shane just stares up at the screen, dumbfounded. He’s not listening to the details anymore, but the words echo in his head.

    Metros to acquire Ilya Rozanov…

He was coming here. To Shane's city.

OR: Ilya gets traded to Shane's team a few months after Las Vegas, and Shane isn't happy about it.

    Summary

The right thing to do with an unjust war is to lose it. The right thing to do in a battle is to win it. Ilya Rozanov has won every battle and lost the war, which ought, by some reckoning, to leave him twice in the right.

He is sent across the sea as the hostage instead, handed over to the very kingdom he spent eighteen months burning in his father’s name. If the heavens keep accounts, they keep them badly.
