And the blindfold—put them on, unnie. I promise it’ll feel nice!”
The blindfold and headphones go on next, and with them properly on, Rumi’s worldview narrows drastically. Darkness envelops her vision. Quiet surrounds her hearing, and even through the noise-canceling feature of Zoey’s headphones, Rumi can still hear a smidge with her heightened senses. The soul bond remains, allowing Rumi to hear the rhythmic thump of Mira’s and Zoey’s heartbeats; she can hear their soft breaths, the easy inhale and gentle exhale that accompanies every beat. The hum of their resonating souls is soothing with nothing else to block it.
It’s… nice.
It’s so much nicer rather than hearing every sound in existence fighting for limited space inside Rumi’s head.

Summary
The sword was much better kept than the rest of the shrine, with only a bit of moss and plant growth around it. The bronze of the hilt was shining brightly, the constellations etched into the blade clear and unmarred. The metal itself was almost iridescent, pinks and blues catching the dappled light filtering through the leaves as Mira tilted her head this way and that. It was, honestly, beautiful.
“I’m gonna take it,” Zoey said.

Zoey and Mira find an ancient sword at an abandoned shrine in the middle of the woods. Surely there won’t be any consequences to them taking it—right?

She wasn’t looking at Mira. Her voice was tight, like it hurt to speak. Mira watched her with a furrowed brow, still quiet.
“I feel so guilty all the time. Because I love you, Mira. I love you, and this doesn’t change that, but I see her and I want to make her smile and I want her to hold my hand and I think she’s beautiful and weird and sweet and I—”
She finally looked up, tears shining in her eyes.
“I think I ruined us. And I’m so sorry.”
Mira just stared at her. Wide-eyed. Silent.
Zoey’s heart dropped. “Say something.”
Mira exhaled like she’d been holding her breath for a month.
Then she visibly deflated—shoulders dropping, head tilting back against the wall—and let out a quiet, choked laugh.

Mira nods, yipping. When Zoey removes her hand from her hair though, she pouts, moving to gnaw at Zoey's sweatpants.
"Hey! Hey, no." Zoey pulls Mira back by the back of her neck. "Bad girl! We're not playing right now, are we?"
At Mira's defiant pout, Zoey sighs, letting her puppy drop to the floor just to flick her on the nose. Mira yelps at the light pain.
"Remember, puppy," Zoey says, pointing at Mira with a stern look on her face. "I'm one of your owners today. Not your playmate."
