Summary
Last thing Arthur remembers, he was out with Leon on a hunt. So when he wakes up and finds himself in a strange bed with a terrible wound on his chest, he is understandably confused. Even stranger is the boy who says he's there to take care of him.
As Arthur recovers, he learns more about this mysterious boy. What he finds out about the boy—and about himself in the process—is more than he bargained for. But Arthur hopes that it'll be enough to explain whatever the hell happened to him and his missing knight.

Bruce stared at the girl blankly for a moment, before reaching up to touch one of the points on the cowl.
“Thanks,” he rasped, then coughed, clearing his throat. “It’s actually a bat, though. Like this.” He pushed back the edge of the cape to give her a better look at the symbol on his chestplate.
(I did not intend to write a fic for Bruce's birthday, but then I got inspired by conversation in a group chat so you can thank audreycritter and CaramelMachete for this.)

“Steph…” Tim sounded pained.
“Yeah, Steph, be nice to Jason,” Dick said, most of his attention still on his phone. “Teething makes him grumpy. You know how it is.”
Or: After the Pit, Jason can re-grow teeth. Sometimes this comes in handy. Doesn't mean it's pleasant.

“It’s not about frickin’ money, B,” Jason grumbled, readjusting his ice pack.
“Yeah, B,” Dick put in, lighthearted, teasing. Rescuing the emotional tone as usual, when he wasn’t the one who was angry with Bruce himself. “It’s not about the money. It’s Robin tradition. You can’t renege now.”
“You want me to be the tooth fairy. Again. For you,” Bruce said, slowly, still looking at Jason.
(Bruce is Trying Hard, but his children are so very complicated, always, and none of the parenting manuals seem to have advice for situations like this.)
