At that moment, Oscar, who had stood up almost silently, entered the conversation. He raised an eyebrow with a sideways smile.
“Exercise? Already? You two are mental. What I need is coffee. If you’re going to train, you better go get the coffee first, or there’s no way I’m moving.”
Paul laughed at the attitude as he walked over to where the others had gathered. “Tell us where that coffee is, and we’ll follow you without thinking twice.”The laughter that followed spread through the room, filling the air with a freshness that countered the feeling of sleeplessness that still weighed on them. Although the departure of most of the pack had left an atmosphere of uncertainty, a kind of collective resistance to stillness had taken hold of them.

Max jolted awake. The first thing he registered was a change in temperature against his thigh. An alarming, damp warmth was spreading. He froze, his sleepy head struggling to process the information. He shifted slightly, and the sticky sensation became more pronounced.
He sat up abruptly, the click of the bedside lamp cutting through the dark. "Uh oh..." he murmured under his breath. The dim glow revealed a scene that made his heart clench. Beside him, Charles lay there, blissfully unaware of the betrayal of his own body.
