The strings of fate were messy. They were constantly weaving and tying and knotting together – it was all too easy for something to go wrong, for something to get tangled in the evermoving threads.
Odysseus was sinking.
He had lost, right at the end of his journey. He was plummeting towards the bottom of the sea, the hands of the fallen dragging him downwards.
Until, suddenly, he fell through.
Or
Odysseus appears on a bus alongside two young demigods and a satyr right at the start of their first quest. Finding himself with a strange tie to one of them, and no way to get home, there wasn't much else to do other than follow along.

Summary
Some days Grover dreams of an eye.
It’s red and ugly. It looks down upon him and there’s voices and someone screaming but he can’t quite make out who it is.
And there’s blood, his own. It stains the rock underneath his head, he can’t breathe.
“My friend.” A voice weeps above him. “My friend…”
On those days, Grover wakes up, and tries his best to wipe dream from his mind.
He can never quite get the taste of blood out of his mouth.
