    Summary

A year and a half ago, she and her whole cluster had been fighting for their lives, caught in a war and on the run. Now Kala was back at work, on her way to have lunch with her husband and their lover, and at the end of the day she would go home with them and to them, and they’d probably watch something on Netflix and Kala would call her parents and Rajan would make dinner while trying to teach Wolfgang to cook and then they’d make love, and it would all be so utterly, terrifyingly, wondrously, normal.

Not, perhaps, normal by the standards of most people in terms of the specifics, but in the overarching sense, in the quotidian daily routines of a comfortable life.

“Isn’t that a good thing?” said Sun mildly.

Kala and her cluster wrestle with what their new normal means.

    Summary

Though the loss of its master was disastrous enough, the first true sign that all was not well at the Jinlintai came a fortnight after Jin Guangyao’s death.

“They say that Jin-furen refuses to wear mourning,” Nie Huaisang said to Lan Xichen, when he visited Gusu in the wake of Jin Guangyao’s funeral. “What if—what if something’s wrong, Xichen-gege? She was devoted to San-ge, so why would she…”

This was so far beyond belief that Lan Xichen dismissed Huaisang’s report at once. But he wrote to Qin Su that evening, asking her if all was well; and though he visited the mail-office nearly every day during the week that followed, he received no reply.

In which something is rotten at the heart of Lanling, and Lan Xichen attempts—and fails—to discover what it might be.

Lan Wangji's carefully constructed life at Gusu Academy ended when a tornado named Wei Wuxian swept in, upending everything he thought he knew with a flurry of chaos and energy. Two years later, on the eve of high school graduation, he watched him walk away, leaving Lan Wangji holding a bouquet of flowers he never had the chance to give him. Eleven years later a familiar voice rings out across a soccer field and Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian both must confront their pasts and what they mean to each other.

“Okay,” Jingyi says, as Sizhui puzzles this out aloud. “Okay! So the demon has been turning its victims into children.”

    “I think so,” Sizhui says.

“To make them easier prey,” Jingyi says.

    “Yes,” Sizhui says.

“So—” Jingyi’s voice cracks here, “this kid is Senior Wei.”

Wei Wuxian, still tangled in his own massive robes, blinks politely at them.

(Or: Wei Wuxian is cursed on a night-hunt, and the junior quartet rapidly finds themselves in over their heads.)
