oh goodness, here we are at last!!
sorry, it just feels a bit surreal that I did actually complete your story (can't imagine what it felt like for you to finish writing it!!!), well, ALMOST completed, there is still the last third extras chapter, which I WILL read eventually, but just not now, cause I need a little break 🥲Actually I started reading your story back in 2022, got to the third of it in a couple of weeks, but had no time to get back to it until this May or so when I finally took my sweet summer time under the shade of an apple tree (can't help myself but think about your amazing cover art!) and finish it.
To say that your story inspired me in all kinds of ways would be an underestimation. I've looked up almost all the articles you referenced, thoroughly researched info about Ibex and Sour Milk Sea, even I did not particularly want to do that xd, hopped on the train of Polari as soon as I stumbled on a "dolly basket" phrase and had read the whole book on the language before proceeding reading the story further. I've marked locations in the UK you've mentioned — like bars and other places Freddie and Smile had performed or stayed so maybe some day one day I could take a glimpse of them if I ever was to visit England again. It also was quite fun to come across places that I was discovering for myself at the same time from other media like Hampstead Heath park, which was also mentioned in "This Life" UK (1996) series.
And I've listed quite a bunch of biographies on Queen and Freddie to get myself acquainted with. I also marked the phrases in your writing that intentionally (or not) referenced Queen songs and there were a lot of them ;)
Well, I guess my point is, your story is extremely profound and engaging and I wanna thank you very very VERY much that you took your time and energy to create it. I do appreciate it. Don't delete it, pretty please 🥺Anyway, I felt very much in tune with the time and places, I think you (and your betas of course, props to them!) did a beautiful job making your research not only on pre-Queen's history, but with capturing the nuances of that time in general.
I really liked your writing style — on point, engaging, dynamic, emotion-evoking with fun sprinkles of some fancy words 😁
Freddie, Roger, Brian sound very akin to themselves, at least I thought so. Also, aside from the emotional ride of it all, once in a while I really had a good laugh 😁I really vibed with Roger's free spirited and non-religious attitude, and it was fun to check out just a couple of days ago his and other band members' answers to some random questionnaires to see how it actually is quite close to his real-life character.
As for Freddie — yeah, that was quite a spectacle (and yet not an entirely unfamiliar one) to see how this poor kiddo ends things single-handedly because of his own fear that they would inevitably end, yipee 😁🥲💀I'll be honest, I was quite upset with Freddie for keeping his doubts to himself and never really sharing with Rog (not until the end) about what was eating him from within — could they make it as a couple, could he make it as a performer, does he need to live his life like he wants to or like he "should". But I realize that if he spoke his mind about these things just from the start they started occupying him, the better part of this fic would just not exist 😁
Sometimes I wondered why Fred and Rog were even together (even though I love them as a couple), but when they were — it made perfect sense.
Yeah, sometimes I was tired of Freddie's repeating tantrums, I even thought that at some point he acted egoistically, being so self-indulged in his problems alone, and at the same time not being open with others, so they could understand that something is going on and help him. But of course I understood where it all comes from, all the entirely consuming fear and accumulating self-doubts and how they mess with you, makes you think of yourself as an unspeakable one.
Honestly, I am not entirely positive that real-life Freddie (imho ofc) would be just that much dramatic, but it does really work for your story, his arc of growing up, reinventing himself, finding the solid ground, and it works nicely with timeline, cause him splitting up with Roger makes more sense for his departure with Ibex to Liverpool.
I like them both though, and I genuinely felt for Brian too, which is not always a granted thing! But yeah, he was a really good friend to them, cautiously trying to help those two walking disasters to stop being such a drama queens, bless his soul 😁This story is something I return to in my thoughts a lot. And I imagine I still be for a long time. So thank you again very much for creating such a profound piece of writing!

YES
The idea of reintegration leading to both Marks being present at the same time and granting them ability to take control while not sharing thoughts is awesome! And it does not even feel so much unrealistic to me for Marks’ brain to function that way, assuming there are two non-intersecting isolated (well, "severed") parts (or more precisely, neural networks), which hold their two autonomic personalities and then there are also parts of the brain, like the one that handles motor skills, which could be accessed by both of them (receiving impulses). Yeah, I'm definitely fascinated by this idea now.
"Serving Kant" moment (xd) was just terrific. The notion of not thinking, not making decisions at all is both soothing and sexy af. Like, it lifts the load from your weary mind, sparing you from burdens of overanalyzing and anxiety. It makes you put your trust into someone who would take care of you, but of course it also brings that risk that comes from not being in control. And willingly accepting that risk is what makes it so hot 😛. In other words, I've deeply felt that, thank you!
"I want you to like me" just 🥹🥹🥹
I reeeeeally liked when the story made a slight turn to that "accept your whole self" path, I'm still processing all the things it makes me think.
And I mean, pardon me, I had to say that: fucking both your body and mind at the same time — HELL YEAH LET'S GOOO
anyway
THANKS A LOT YOU ARE BRILLIANT AND I'M FUCKING HOOKED

Summary
All the air left his lungs as he landed inelegantly on his back with a grunt. He was disoriented for a few moments, head spinning. It was only the feeling of a cold, sharp blade at his throat that allowed him to return to reality. When his vision was no longer blurred, he realised Yusuf was straddling him, hookblade pressed to his throat. An empty threat, but menacing enough to signal his victory. He grinned coyly.
Yusuf leant down, just inches away from the mentor’s face. Ezio swallowed dryly, but not out of fear. Short breaths fell out of Yusuf’s mouth as he chuckled, proclaiming his win in a low voice. “I won.”
