Summary
After coming to live with Tony and Pepper, Peter begins to have nightmares. His therapist tells him it's okay; that nightmares are a perfectly normal part of the healing process. Peter, however, is dubious. He's enhanced. He's supposed to be a superhero. And that's exactly why he doesn't want Tony to know about them. But the worst part of the constant nightmares is the way they make him feel like he shouldn't put on the new Spider-Suit. In fact, he's starting to wonder if he should have ever become Spider-Man at all.

Peter dropped Liz’s dad on the sand and groaned as every inch of his body screamed out in pain. He couldn’t put any weight on his right leg, could barely move it, and his left arm hung limp at his side.
His chest was burning, making it hard to breathe as fire raged around him.
He knew he had to get somewhere safe, to get help, but his vision was nothing but blurred lights and black spots, and when his eyes closed of their own accord, he dropped to the sand and felt nothing.
(Because there's no fucking way he walks away from that fight)

Peter Parker was orphaned at the age of 11 when his family was killed an a car accident. Luckily he wasn't alone for long when billionaire and literal superhero, Tony Stark, swoops in one day and agrees to become a foster parent. However, Peter can't help but think even as the years go by that he always has one foot out the door, waiting for the day that Tony will decide he doesn't want to be a parent anymore...he just didn't think it would happen on his 16th birthday.
