His laugh used to be so clear in her mind.

Suddenly, all at once, the grief hit her in a wave so fierce that her knees buckled. A sob tore itself from her lungs as she crumbled to the floor, her skateboard slipping from her fingers and hit the tile with a loud clatter. Mike jolted and grabbed her as she fell, and without really thinking, she latched onto her friend and hid her face in his shoulder.
Billy was dead.
Billy was really dead.
Mike’s arms wrapped around her after a few seconds, his chin now resting on her shoulder as she sobbed into his.
It felt like she was dying.
