“It’s like he doesn’t even want to be home,” Yui said, glasses askew on her nose.
“Yui,” Nanako tried to soothe her, a hand coming to rest on her arm. “I'm sure he does want to see you.” The words came out slurred, sounding distant to her own ears. God, how many beers in was she?
Over the rim of her glass, Yui whispered, “I just get so… pent up, you know?”
Or:
Yui's drunken lamenting about her faraway husband leave Nanako in the position of the kind, comforting friend; a role she's never excelled at. The least she can do is offer her a place to stay for the night. Yui, though, ends up wanting something more from her.
