Summary
Will reaches for the voice, cutting through the black abyss of his mind. That sweet, strong voice calling out to him–his only lifeline in a vast ocean of darkness.
“Mike–” he tries to say, but all that escapes his lips is blood and smoke. He collapses again, but this time he’s caught before he sinks further into the fleshy grave below.
“I’m here,” Mike says fiercely, tightening his grip around Will’s shaking body.
Will doubles over in Mike’s arms, retching up the rest of the Hive’s infection. Mike’s unwavering hold anchors him through the worst of it.After defeating Vecna and the Mind Flayer, the Rift to the Abyss seals itself shut. Mike and Will are the only ones left behind. Weak, injured and powerless, they'll have to fight, survive and work together to find a way back home.

"He’s not actually sick, not exactly.” Joyce's voice is steady, but her clear stress shows, “He presented, Mike.”
She gives him a comforting smile as he blinks. Just blinks, unable to do much else. He doesn’t notice his throat is dry until he speaks and it comes out quiet, crackly. “What?”
“He went into his first heat overnight. I really should have seen the signs, it’s just so uncommon at sixteen. I wasn’t even thinking of it.”
Something's up with Will. Their friends say Mike is crazy, but if anyone knows Will, it's Mike. When Will presents as an omega two years earlier than most people should, Mike can't even gloat about being right, because he's suddenly being sent into overdrive at Will's newfound distress at the situation. But Mike will make it right, he'll keep him safe. That's his job, and he takes pride in it.

Summary
Now, someone walked into the room. A boy, awkwardly standing at the side of his bed, looking over him worriedly. His hair was brown and scruffy, and he had big baby doe eyes and a yellow-and-blue horizontally-striped shirt like a cartoon character. The window was lighting him up like he was important to Mike’s narrative. The curtains are blue, thought Mike, this boy is light. I love metaphors. Maybe he was high on the pain meds. Upon seeing him, Mike felt a great affection, a great peace. Plus, he had long eyelashes. Mike almost giggled to himself. He was definitely a little high.
“Hi.” breathed Mike.
“Hi.” he said, hesitating.
“We’re friends?” Mike asked hopefully.
Or: During the Party's final battle with Vecna, Mike is gravely injured and loses his memories. He wakes up in a hospital only remembering a handful of inconsequential little things, like how much he loves a boy who seems like light.
