    It's a tradition to burn down a Woodland Mansion at every start of a season. Only this time it's not only inhabited by mindless mobs. There is actually an uncorrupted Player Allay there.

    Scar and Cub don't really know how to feel about Grian when they help to rescue him. If they'd come just a few weeks later Grian would have become a Vex. And the reminder of what they lost confronts them with feelings they would have liked to forget.

    Grian, on the other hand, really just wants to enjoy his newfound freedom and do what Allays are supposed to do - gathering things and causing mischief. Which is hard to do when you’ve been dropped into a foreign world and have no clue where your former crew has ended up. Not to mention the two very intriguing Vex, who give off very mixed signals. Not that Grian is any better at communication.

    It was - when all was said and done - a death wish to marry the boy-king. Anyone, noble or common, was allowed to marry the king. The catch was that for some inexplicable reason, every single spouse had been executed the morning after. For a while, it seemed that people just kept trying their luck, volunteer after volunteer. It slowly dwindled over a year ago, when people realized it would be luckier to throw themselves off a cliff than marry him. And now, a year later, Scar, riddled with many debts and even more enemies, decided to try his own luck.

    It wasn’t like he had anything to lose, anyways.

    "Scar?" Grian repeated, more shifting, like he was sitting up. Tired but gentle confusion in his voice. "Are you okay?"

    Scar should've hung up. It was bad enough he'd actually called. He should've lied, should've said it was a misdial and pretended to be okay. He should've done a hundred things and he did the one thing he shouldn't, because despite everything that happened between them, Scar felt safest with the one who hurt him. He said, a trembling whisper, "No."

    Grian did everything right.

    He never missed a single lesson. He got good grades and did all his extra curriculums. He even got into a great university. He did everything he was supposed to do.

    So why did he feel so wrong?

    Scar seemed to do everything wrong.

    He was struggling with his uni classes. He has been crashing on people's couches for months, barely managing to feed himself and his cat. He was failing at everything.

    So when he sees a boy in his class that catches his eye, it just feels right.
