Fwoosh!
In a matter of seconds, the devil is wholly engulfed in the red lustre of fire, body imperceptible behind the thick wall of light.
Vincent and the nuns watch in morbidly-tinged awe as it shrieks inhumanely, its unnaturally deep voice intertwined with the piercing wails of a young child. The clash of pitches grate against their ears, and they're forced to hold their palms against the sides of their heads to block out the horrific sound.
"Sir, please! Dear Lord, my ears!"
"I'm on it!"
Vision doubling and thoughts rattling around the confines of his skull, he shakily begins to read out the words from the Good Book.
Actually, no. That's what was supposed to happen. Unfortunately, the spindly string of fate decided otherwise, much to his horrified disbelief.
Rather, a small hand, sharpened with claw-like nails, reaches out from the flames.
Before any of them can react, it drags Vincent into the heat with unforeseen strength. Reeling him into the light.
