Summary
“John?” Sherlock’s voice was tense, tired, almost fragile. He wasn’t saying John’s name to attract attention in the way he usually would, but instead was asking for it. He hadn’t said Watson, which was normally something John found sweet, but now only built upon the rapidly growing feeling that something was wrong.
“Hm?” John said, slowly pulling his head away from the cabinet and closing it.
Sherlock had his arms tightly folded around his middle, wearing only a t-shirt–having likely tossed the hoodie to the floor–and his gaze was fixed firmly on the floor.
He didn’t speak. He just breathed there, body fixed in the doorway as if it were built there.
What had Mrs Holmes said?
“Sherlock…” John said, carefully approaching, holding out one hand, inviting Sherlock to speak.
“My, um.” He said, in that same, fragile tone, “My brother? He died.”

Sherlock receives news that his brother has passed away. Luckily, he knows it's damn hard to kill a Holmes.
