Summary
After a mission gone horribly wrong, infamous fugitive Scaramouche becomes stranded in the desert with the clothes on his back, his gun, and a desire for revenge against those who betrayed him. To make matters worse, he wasn't entirely alone, as a wandering cowboy of Kaedehara descent quickly made himself another blight on Scaramouche's wretched existence, somehow resulting in the world's most tenuous alliance. Little did Scaramouche know, though, that this alliance with the Kazuha would bring him more than just an annoying escort out of the desert.

But no…the very notion was ridiculous. That sailor was a human, and the mermaid was a monster. For all of the mermaid’s daydreaming, no human would be able to bring themselves to want a creature like it.

In a universe where a certain discarded puppet became a mermaid after its first betrayal, it knew that there was no place for it amongst humans—especially not when they had soulmates and it did not. Unfortunately, that couldn't stop it from longing for a beautiful red-eyed sailor.

Wait… if Scaramouche was in Kaedehara’s body, then did that mean that Kaedehara—stupid, fake, and annoyingly sexy Kaedehara—was in Scaramouche’s body?

After waking up in each other's bodies, Scaramouche (who definintely hates Kazuha) and Kazuha (who totally isn't hiding a secret crush on Scaramouche) must work together to find the culprit and undo the curse. Surely, nothing will go wrong.

A large black dog bounds into the clearing, then skids to a stop. It stares at Wei Wuxian, body stiff, tail raised.
A low growl rumbles in its throat.
And Wei Wuxian goes utterly still.
It had been a point of contention between him and Jiang Cheng when they were children. Jiang Cheng had thought he saw no difference between a happy dog with a wagging tail and lolling tongue, and one with aggression in its body.
But Wei Wuxian knew—knows the difference. He knows because a happy dog is one he can run away from, duck behind Jiang Cheng, scramble up a tree and wail for rescue. A snarling dog is something that leaves him frozen.

Wei Wuxian gets locked out of the Cloud Recesses due to a broken rule and a certain stubborn Lan. Neither could have predicted what would come next.
