Summary
The Law of Cycles reaches down. It does this always, that’s what it’s for, and what it is. As mundane as hope springing from a warzone, or the law that a small thing forever be drawn to something of sufficiently greater mass regardless of how far it’s thrown. It is not unused to touching that it reaches down for. It is not unused to the things it reaches down for shivering, in fear, rage, or ecstatic relief as the law rests its fingers against their hearts. It is not unused to how easily their bodies shed away from their hearts when the Law collects them, little more than a long abandoned shell. All of these things are as natural as it is.
It is not, however, prepared for somebody to reach back.
Homura Akemi takes it by the hand, plants her feet against its chest, and pulls. A sliver comes free, and dances off into the dark. It will take a long, long time for the Law to wonder where it’s gone.
It is much more interested in the novel sensation of heat flooding its chest. Searing and urgent. It runs a hand down the fissure and watches something wet and bright bubble through its fingers. This, it decides, must surely be love.

Summary
If asked, you probably wouldn’t say you were smarter than other people, because that would be rude. You had been raised better than that. But you did know that, through some twist of luck, by seeing a few things you shouldn’t and falling in with the right internet boards, that you did know more than them. That you could see things other people couldn’t.
You had been lied to- were still being lied to- by everyone. From the cia to the mayor to the lady down the street who walked dogs commercially and stared at you whenever you left your house. You’d been taking notes on all of it, and the cork boards in your garage had been immensely helpful for keeping track of it all. Hell, you’d even nearly finished putting together your complete picture!

The horse beneath her was running hard enough to jar her ribs and the person behind her singlehandedly keeping her sack of potatoes ass half upright was squeezing too hard.
Her breath was ragged and shaky and made the pain worse and she wanted to scream. It was immensely, immensely unfair that she couldn’t. She needed to be quiet. And even above her own uncontrolled noise she could swear she could hear the footsteps behind her.

God was faithful. That was the first thing it had ever known about itself, when its first worshipper had carved it from stone and afterwards looked at it with an expression it never would forget. It had known it would do anything, anything at all, to protect its creatures, and to see that raw awe on the faces of its devout again.
God was proud. Why wouldn’t it be, when it could break that which its devout desired between its palms, when it was so good at it? It had held its sword in its hand since the day it had been broken from that rock and moved with it like a thundercrack.
God was, for the first time in its existence, curious.

Summary
They tell me that identity is defined by interaction. That there’s not much to it once you get past the little textures and pockmarks of the world bouncing off and scraping past a person. That such things are what gives life color, motion, breath.
I think the person keeping me must agree, because there is exactly one bit of color in my room. A bright red sticky note stuck to the plain plaster wall, with a couple little words written on it in a neat, careful hand. I have never said them out loud.Series

There were more than two seats at the table. All but two were filled.
“Oh,” Madoka said, “I didn’t know you had stuffed animals!” Mami was a decent bit older than her, after all, and she’d never exactly seen any about the place.
Mami smiled, clearly proud. “Oh, they’re very new. Feel free to take a look!”
All of them were gorgeous, carefully sewn together out of old thrift fabric, but a flash of color caught Madoka’s eye in particular. It turned out to be the tailfin of a fish cut out of a soft old blanket, with bands of red, teal, orange, and black blocked out by expertly stitched seed beads. An elaborate yellow ribbon bow had been tied around its throat and tacked down to the fabric beneath. Madoka wasn’t much one for sewing herself, but she still traced the craftsmanship of the toy with her fingertips. “Gorgeous…” she breathed.
The fish didn’t twitch at that. Madoka had no idea why she briefly expected it to. Instead she looked up to Mami, still stroking the soft fabric happily. “Did you make these?”
Mami’s smile widened. “Why yes, I did! It’s a new hobby, you see.”Series
