Shang Qinghua was not a courageous man. He knew this – he couldn’t have missed it, what with how almost every one he met called him some version of squirrelly – and that counted for something, he thought. Knowing your limits was the better part of valour, in his world (and actually, maybe that might have something to do with why no one saw him as brave). The way he saw it though, it is this very quality that had kept him alive. He never entered a situation without scrutinizing it at least 10 different ways and some people might even call that resourcefulness.
