    After a long and tremendous battle, our heroes find themselves with a moments respite at a local tavern. As heavy in spirit as they are in drink, lavishing the townsfolk with their tall-tale of victory, they can't help but smile and laugh as the night goes on and their aches fade.

    Of course, their journey isn't over and Lan Zhan is ready to ensure that at least he, and Wei Ying, are properly rested before the group departs for Gusu in the morning.

    Summary

    Modern WangXian AU. I like treading close to canon - out of respect for the original and, especially in this case, for the emotional power of its tragedy - but here I'm transposing it into a mildly-dystopian modern context. There's some worldbuilding in most of the stories in this series; not in any particular order, but as it evolved in my mind. Sometimes I repeat elements of it to enable a story to be read as a standalone narrative. There'll be some inconsistencies and continuity gaps because I write my stories as they come to mind, not necessarily in a planned sequence. There are also distinct sub-arcs in the main setting of this AU, and not all of them are connected.
