Attachments were a weakness— a means to destroy someone’s entire being with the snap of a finger. When the entire world is going up in flames, there is no room to worry about the lives of mere passerby’s. There is only you, and the only person you can rely on in this world is yourself. If you can’t even do that, then when the time comes to pick up the pieces of what has been lost in a world corrupted by fear and ruin, there will be no one left to collect the shards that remain.
There will only be darkness and the ghost of something that once was, and will never be again.
