Summary
Stiles Stilinski was not having a good day. It was supposed to be great, after all he just turned seventeen today, and yet here he is. Alone. Outside the arcade, because his best friend forgot why today is important, and decided to ditch him for his girlfriend. Just before he decides to go and try to have fun alone anyway, a guy that must be a supermodel face-plant right in front of him. So he does what anyone would he laughs till his sides hurt. Huh, today might not be so bad after all.
Derek Hale was not having a good day. Sometimes it just came with the territory of living in a house full of werewolves, where no one could find a quiet place. So when given the opportunity to join his sister shopping, for once he agrees. While out he catches a sent that was indescribable and so of course he follows it only to turn the corner and see the most beautiful person he’s ever laid eyes on. His wolf suddenly screams “MATE” in his head. And really, who wouldn’t that throw off balance? He can’t be blamed for falling right there. Well maybe today wasn’t so bad anyway.

Summary
It was around the age of 16 that Stiles finally started to come to terms with the implications of his words and he had made peace with it. On occasion, he thought that maybe they’d be able to work past whatever issues his soulmate had with him, but when even Scott would forlornly glance at his bicep with those big round, pitiful eyes - he knew. So he accepted it!
But one good thing that came out of that whole situation was Lydia. When Stiles had swiftly redirected himself down the opposite end of the hall and ducked into a somewhat empty classroom to escape prying eyes and laughing jeers over the words stamped across his skin, Lydia had followed. She stayed quiet, let Stiles collect himself and get a hold of his breathing again, then calmly said, “Fuck fate.”

What if Stiles did end up believing one day and he got a soulmark and it... wasn’t Derek’s? What if it was a completely different design? Derek would hate the other person on principle because they would’ve gotten what he wanted.
Hadn’t he earned Stiles? He’d been there for him for years, and they were both such good friends, and had stuck by one another regardless of their differences. He was sitting in a fucking movie theatre to watch a movie he wasn’t at all interested in instead of playing ultimate frisbee with Boyd and some other friends, for fuck’s sake. He loved ultimate frisbee! Much more than superhero movies!
But not more than Stiles.
He couldn’t possibly love anything more than Stiles.
