"Historia didn’t know how many months it’d been since the initial outbreak, but life was flourishing in whatever cracks it could find through the proverbial concrete. She still went to class, still shopped (stole, but whatever) for groceries, still fed the stray cat she’d adopted, and still had her cooking and cleaning duties as one fifth of her apartment’s residents.
All things considered, it was quite weird to have two of your top worries for the day being to “wash all the dishes in the sink and—oh, yeah also don’t get eaten by zombies, haha,” but such was the life they led now. There was little to do about it but to move forward."
In which even the literal apocalypse doesn't stop the flow of time and the stubborn human spirit to survive. For those still alive, schools start again. Cafes open up. Baseball events are actively being planned at this very moment, since everyone's gotten good at swinging at bat by now. Historia, Mikasa, and Sasha keep going to college and worrying about exams and senior thesis papers. Ymir, Annie, and Armin work at Hange Zoë's prestigious lab, researching a potential vaccine for the virus. It's terrifying and hysterical all at once.

Summary
When Eren's letter arrives to Paradis Island, it details within it the first of two surprises that the Scouts could never have anticipated—that he's found Ymir alive, and needs an immediate evacuation to carry her out of the country. Following a crazy what-if scenario, Connie, Sasha, and CO. prepare to re-introduce Ymir to Historia on the Queen's birthday. The second surprise that nobody can foresee is Historia's instinctive reaction to punch Ymir as soon as she reveals herself.
Dropping to her knees and trying to catch her breath, Ymir starts cackling—old habits die hard, it appears.
The kiss afterwards makes the punch to the gut well worth it.

Summary
At a political networking ball meant to show off Paradis' political and military strength, Historia sees a new recruit who has the same hairclip as Ymir. Tall, dark-skinned, and freckled, she looks frighteningly like her lover from behind.
It's too much.
With one too many glasses of champagne to drink, Historia confronts the girl before collapsing into a panic attack, led away from the crowd and into the hallway by her old friends from the Scout Regiment where she finally breaks down for the first time since Ymir's letter arrived.

“Please, just a little more,” Ymir begs, and Reiner must feel an immense, insurmountable amount of guilt because he begrudgingly acquiesces, loosening his hold on her elbow slightly if only to let her finish writing.
Truth is, I do have one.
“Come on,” Reiner grinds through clenched teeth. It’s a toll on his soul that he’s the one tasked with taking her to the stand. But this time he doesn’t loosen his grip, the sting of his painful hold on her arm burning through her clothed flesh. Ymir keeps writing, frantic.
It’s that I never got to marry you.

Summary
The confusion that hits her upon seeing Ymir’s lean body crouching at her window is unparalleled in intensity to any emotion Historia’s ever felt before. She blinks once, twice, thrice, simply staring, rooted to her spot by her bed as she tries to process the image that stands before her. Ymir blinks back, a self-conscious smile blossoming timidly on her lips. It almost compliments the bruise turning dark on her forehead, and Historia decides that if Ymir is genuinely real and was hurt by one of her guards—well, somebody’ll be getting fired tomorrow.
But she’ll deal with that after…whatever the fuck’s happening right now.
“They, uh, they said you were resting in your room and kindly rerouted me outside.” She pauses, giving an unabashed once-over to Historia in her nightgown. Ymir grins with wolf teeth and even though she looks ridiculous, Historia wants to kiss her senseless.
“I must be going insane,” she says instead, and then promptly pushes the apparition out of the window.
What she doesn't expect is for her hand to connect to warm, real flesh, and for Ymir to really fall, toppling into the rose bushes below.
