Summary
Ilya has learned that love gives you time, but it cannot make forever out of two weeks.
He worries at his bottom lip, feeling the first seeds of dread as he leans against Shane’s bureau. He’s dressed, his bag is zipped, and it’s still dark outside. Shane sleeps, adorably, half on his stomach with his face nearly off the pillow. He didn’t need to get up as early as Ilya. You don’t need to get up as early just to drive someone to the airport.
It’s 3 am. Ilya’s flight is at 7:30 and they still need to make the two-hour drive.
OR
They had two weeks, and those two weeks are finished. Shane drives Ilya from the cottage to the airport.

Summary
“I loved you then.”
“So I win?”
“Isn’t the winner the one who made the other one fall in love first? That’s me.”
“No, the winner is the one who fell in love first,” Ilya argues.
“If I fell in love first, you would be arguing the other way.”
“Of course. So would you. Is what we do. Compete,” Ilya says—and then, smoothly and quickly, not giving Shane a chance to react, he uses his weight to roll them over, carding a second hand through his hair, combing it back towards the pillow as Shane looks up at him with a gaze so tender it nearly—nearly—makes Ilya want to shy away from it. “But I always win.”
“Not always.”
“Mostly.”
“Not mostly.”
“Sometimes win.”

Summary
Shane gives himself a minute, hand on the wall in case his knees give out. His heart is still racing behind his ribs. It went fine, he reminds himself. They still love you. This is not how the nightmare usually goes.
That's the thing about nightmares though, you can't out run them. Maybe he just has to sit in it for a while, wait for this new reality to reform itself around him.
They still love you.
OR
nightmares aren't real, but waking up is still a process
