"There was no sound in space. The dark cell was quiet, with only the faintest hum of the ship that hardly registered in Virgil’s ear. The silence made his head hurt. He was used to sound, to an abundance of it. From tires screeching and horns blaring to people laughing and shouting, he was used to some sort of background noise. It was comforting. He hated the quiet, where the loudest thing was his own thoughts."
