Summary
Viktor quietly took in the sight, soaking in the atmosphere. He hadn’t seen his partner look so peaceful in years. He couldn’t remember the last time he felt so rested himself, and in the beauty of the moment, he didn’t care to try.
Panic lanced through him when it occurred to Viktor that in these minutes of quiet observation, Jayce wasn’t breathing.
He drew in a shocked breath of his own, and it startled him so badly that he choked on it. He gasped again, and he put his free hand on his chest, desperately feeling it rise and fall. The second he decided that he was alive, he slapped the same palm over Jayce’s. He saw the moment the touch registered, and his partner shot up like a bat out of hell.
“Gah! Wh- what—” he started. “Viktor?”
“Oh, good. You’re awake.” He felt his racing heart settle, sighing in relief, but Jayce stared at him in total bafflement. “You were too still when I woke up.”
