“Captain.” His soft voice would’ve been pleasant if not for the looming dread of his next words. “I’m sorry to bother you. We got a concerning tip at the start of the hour: a pile of dust outside the church. I don’t think I need to clarify more than that.”
“You don’t. Have you called anyone else?”
“Forensics, and now you.”
“So I wasn’t your first pick.” He scoffed at my joke. “Call Susie for me. I’ll be there in ten minutes.”
“Thank you, Kris. I knew I could count on you.” The relief in his voice eased the frustration of the situation. It was hard to be annoyed when someone believed in you, even if you were dead tired.
After a murder is reported outside the church of Hometown, Captain Kris and Detective Susie are on the case.

Edit: OMG THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR THE NICE WORDS ;-; I promise I'm okay!!!! I wrote this as a prose exercise mostly. This was a submission for a podcast episode my med school does, and I wanted to highlight some of the difficulties I've seen as both a patient and a provider! I truly didn't intend this as vent art or anything adksjfhakjdfh, nor does this 1 to 1 reflect an experience/experiences I've personally had! The only reason I even posted it was bc I thought it might resonate with people and, ngl, bc i think i kinda popped off. But! I'm very happy it resonated with the folks that it did!

Summary
Despite their last adventure, Ralsei still struggles with his feelings towards Kris. While his love could overwhelm them both if he is not cautious enough, looking at them from a distance is not something he can be content with either – not anymore. Perhaps their unannounced visit to Castle Town will help him to finally come to terms with his desires… unless Kris will be so keen on complicating everything with their unusual request.
