Sasuke and Sakura were meant to be together, in this world or any other. Their bond was something beyond reason, an inevitable destiny that tied their souls together through the invisible red string of fate.
In another life, maybe they could have been happy. In another life, maybe he would have chosen her because he wanted to, not because the village forced his hand. In another life, maybe her bloodline wouldn't be the very thing he despised most in this world.
The red thread that symbolized love had become curse, until it hurt just to remember what love used to feel like.

Deep down, Sarada knew her parents loved each other. She felt it in her bones, in the feelings they shared. Their bond wasn't loud or flashy like Inojin's parents, who were always bickering and and being gross in public. It was quieter, it was in the way Papa's eyes would soften when he looked at Mama, in the way Mama's whole face would light up when Papa came home, even if he'd only been gone a few hours, and in the silent conversations they seemed to have with just glances across the dinner table.
But Sarada wanted more than subtle gestures and silent understanding. She wanted to see the proof that Papa could actually show his love. That he wasn't just some emotionless man who happened to be married to the most loving person in the world.
And thus, on a particularly boring Tuesday afternoon when she had nothing better to do, "Operation Jealousy" was born.
