Summary
Nicolò is not only content but happy in his life. He and Joe only seem to grow closer every day, their friends are all amazing and supportive, the family they keep is loving and wonderful. Things are good... until Nicky starts to feel sick. With each passing day, Nicky sees no improvement, only seeming to get sicker and sicker. He prays it isn't his hormones or something worse, but the answer they receive is not only surprising but terrifying and exciting.

“I wanted a choice.” His hand lingers on her diaphragm, steadying her furious, heaving breaths, and there’s nothing but defeat left in him as he says, “I wanted a choice for you and me, Andy. For us to move past all this fucking violence if we wanted to.”
Andy scoffs, and winces as Booker moves lower, closer to her wound. “And do what?”
“You really don’t remember, do you?”
When Andy finds out the truth behind Booker’s betrayal, it makes her take stock of the past she’s left behind and the legacy ahead of her. She has a choice to make—one that becomes even more difficult when she comes face to face with Quynh again, and finds Booker tortured by her hand. A choice between living life between cycles of violence or carving out some semblance of normalcy.
Andy has left her mark on countless lives across the millennia, but the thought of leaving a bit of herself behind scares the shit out of her.

"The voice on the overhead speaker announces that the train will arrive in two minutes. Joe closes his phone and scratches at his beard, looking around the cool blue morning. Joe could sleep in for another hour and take the express train, but he’d rather sit for a longer, quieter commute than stand in a packed carriage.
It’s definitely not because this is the same train that the hot dad with his adorable baby takes a few days a week. No matter what Booker and Nile say. It really is a nicer commute, even if pre-crush Joe would rather die than get up earlier than he needs to."
Or, Joe is a library tech with a long commute, and Nicky is a permanently tired single dad.
