But then, what happens when the guilty take their claws and tear open the gods?
How foolish the divine must be to expect mortals not to fight for their lives. To live in silence under the rule of those higher in power, to never have the thought of escape at the threat of consequence, is the thought of cowards. When have snarling wolves ever cowered at austere verbiage? To bend to will is the will of the weak, and all that mortals wish for in their fleeting years of life is power - even if that means toppling down the ones that hold it.

How gloomy, that thought of eternity, or at least close to it, without a friend to share it with due to mortal and immortal boundaries.

What a fool he was, attacking the clawed, fanged beast with words. When had monsters ever been tamed with fancy vocabulary? When had the vile ever knelt in surrender at the call of the priest? When had the powerful lost their might, replaced with fancy colloquy? It was so much easier to silence a squawking bird than it was to tame a ravenous dog, and his confidence had made him blind to the nails digging into his windpipe.
It silenced him, forced him to keel, captured the struggling little bird and threw it in a rotting cage, bars once beautiful and gleaming. Stripped bare of their splendor, they were no better than the steel bars of a jail cell.
