Summary
In the Fire Nation, touching someone’s hair was usually reserved for family only. Hair was a symbol of status and more importantly, of honor. To touch someone’s hair without their permission was a sign of upmost disrespect and to give someone outside of your family permission to touch your hair was considered a sign of true friendship and deep trust.
Zuko had always had a fascination with braiding hair. His mother had taught him many years ago, and it was something he was good at. However, he had only braided the hair of the people closest to him, family and close friends, and only allowed the people close to him to even touch his own hair. Hair is held in high regard in the Fire Nation, and most people only allow family to touch their hair.
But now, suddenly, the Avatar’s friends want him to do their hair.
Or Zuko knows how to braid hair (it’s basically his love language), and the Gaang take full advantage of this.
