“Hey,” Barnes says. “Howsabout I teach ya’ how to control your strength with that arm? So you don’t rip any more handles off doors.”
Tony thinks his brain spasms in his skull, full short-circuit, he worries they’ll have to turn him off and then on again. It’s not that Barnes isn’t nice, because every day since they properly met he’s been nothing but a gentleman to every person around. Tony just doesn’t know how to accept this. It’s too fast, he’s just— let himself be in Barnes’s presence without losing his shit and now Tony’s supposed to accept a favor from him?
He also doesn’t know how to admit the fact that Pepper has been helping him with everything- from working him into his shirts to brushing his hair- while he figures out how to balance the power of the arm with his tendency to be far too impulsive, to pull things too close, too fast.
“C’mon,” Barnes says, nudging Tony in the ribs with an elbow. “We can be metal arm bros.”
Tony would have to be a heartless bastard to say no to that.
“Fine,” he says, and he sniffs a little, but he’s also got a grin tweaking the scarred corner of his lip, so it evens out. “Fine, teach me, oh great master.”
Barnes grins.

Every single cell in Pepper was telling her to say no. They were on a break, there was no way that they could go back to platonically cuddling. There was no platonic in this relationship. They both knew too much about the other, how they would react to certain subjects, when to talk and when to stay silent. But Tony was hurt, broken, and if she left him alone when he asked not to be, she wouldn’t be able to live with herself.
She climbed under the blankets on the left side of the bed, wrapping her arms around him. Just like old times.
In which Civil War left Tony Stark broken and alone, and Pepper Potts has to save the day.

Tony was fine.
That’s what he told Steve. But Steve still kept barging into his workshop without notice, demanding to know his sleep schedule, his eating habits, his workload. Sometimes Tony would humour himself with the idea that hey, maybe Steve actually cared about him, but he knew it was just because he had all the upgrades and Steve wanted to make sure that he could still regularly dish out improved weaponry on a short notice, or even unprompted.
In which Tony Stark gives Steve Rogers many reasons to worry about him, but still doesn't know when to accept the help.

Tony wrinkled his nose, keeping the blankets on, but throwing one leg outside of them. If he was gonna be hot and cold, he at least wanted to do it right. “But, Steeb...”
“You’re sick, sweetheart. You need to eat.”
Tony parroted the words back to him, mustering the most mocking tone he could, under the circumstances. “You’re sick, sweetheart, you need to eat.” He drew out the word ‘eat’ for so long, it made his throat burn, and he ended the sentence in a paroxysm of coughs, muffling a moan into the couch cushions.
Tony is laid up with a sore throat, and feeling extra vulnerable. Steve is there to make it better.

And the great J. Daniel Atlas wears glasses, but only when he’s not feeling well. So that’s why, when Daniel came downstairs with a pink nose and small circular glasses that made him look three years younger, they knew something was wrong.
