Chrissy breaks the kiss and her cheeks hold a bright flush. She wipes the side of her mouth when some saliva has collected and smiles wide. “I think I like shotgunning.”
All Eddie can do is nod and stutter out, “Anytime you want.”
A spark in her eyes as she unwraps her legs from his and stands. Eddie misses her weight and his fingers twitch to hold her again.
“Anytime? You’d do that for me?”
Eddie would do just about anything to get her sitting on his lap again.
“Yeah, princess. I’ll do you the favor.”

Summary
Turning his gaze back onto Chrissy, he could see her giving Jess a deliberate once-over. There’s a kind smile on her face, but Eddie could see that thing he can’t pinpoint in her eyes again. She reached up to grab his hand that was dangling from her shoulder and she intertwined their fingers together while her other arm tightened around his waist.
“Jess.” She tested the name out before her smile widened and that sweetness was still there in her tone, but he heard a certain edge to it too. It surprised him. He never heard that tone come out of her before. “It’s so nice to meet you. I’m Chrissy. I’m Eddie’s girlfriend.”
She said ‘girlfriend’ with purpose. Eddie heard that clearly and his brain was starting to connect the dots. A heat formed in the pit of his stomach and his skin began to tingle.

She had to have been itching for him, the fucking King of the Freaks, to take her, the gorgeous and popular head cheerleader and Queen of Hawkins High, on a fucking camping trip for a fucking week during fucking spring break—

Eddie taps his fingers on the counter, “Don’t you have a boyfriend?”
Chrissy blinks, “It’s just a silly tradition. If you don’t want to kiss me just say so.” Was that hurt in her voice?
He waves a hand and stutters, “It’s not that! I’d love to kiss you, well, I mean who wouldn’t?” A laugh, “It’s just that I might get beat up for it.”
He watches as Chrissy’s shoulders drop and maybe he needs to stop being so Goddamn noble and just kiss the girl. Eddie leans forward so he can touch her wrist. Chrissy looks up at him and there’s a spark in her blue eyes that remind him of when he has to jump start his van.
