Summary
Every day begins feeling the same as the last. Alexander pulls himself from his desk as the sun rises, his head runs full of numbers of how much he has eaten. Too much, too little. If he hasn’t eaten enough in a few days, he will eat a small amount of food, much to Eliza’s delight- it’s the small victories, he assumes. If he’s eaten recently, he’ll shakily turn away from the parlour. He makes his way to work before anybody is in the building. He works until dark, and he falls asleep at his desk.
Day in and day out, he just makes it through with a cloudy mind, stabilised by the pains brought on by his hunger. It’s good. With everything going on around him, this pain is the only thing he still has. The starvation is all he has left.
