Summary
Annabeth Chase had already made her judgments about Piper McLean. A rich, arrogant, and fiercely talented soccer prodigy at only 17, the girl had immediately rubbed Annabeth the wrong way. Everyone seemed to worship the ground she walked on, ignoring the amount of times Piper had been caught getting into fights, disrupting classes, or the fact that she committed auto theft at 15. Piper had the luxury to get away with things like that, meanwhile Annabeth was barely getting by. She'd made her judgments about Piper. Not that the two had ever met, or even spoken. Not that Piper even knew who Annabeth was. That was about to change.
Piper may not have known Annabeth for the last 3 yrs, but upon finally making her acquaintance, Piper knew she was in deep shit. She'd spent years building her image as a talented athlete revered by all, and a delinquent joker respected by many, all to keep them focused on the things they’d like about her, and distract them from ever discovering the things they wouldn’t. But Annabeth Chase wasn’t going to fall for all that. No, trying to get Annabeth to fall for Piper’s charms was going to be a challenge, and Piper found herself working harder than she’s ever had to – and loving every minute.

“Wings?” Piper repeated, eyes wide as she focused on Annabeth’s upper back, at the two bumps on her shoulder blades.
“Yeah.” The blonde affirms with a smirk. “It’s an Athena kid thing, y’know. But unfortunately, it’s physically impossible for them to actually, well, sprout.” Annabeth makes a gesture to enunciate her words. “Well, unless I was a god, I guess.” She muses, before shrugging. “Not like that’s gonna happen, so…”The rest of the conversation was meaningless, but that one line offered on a whim caught in gold to watching eyes.
Annabeth shouldn’t have tempted the fates like that.
She made it far too easy.
But of course, it wasn’t just her. Couldn’t just be her.
