His heart courses in his chest with every moment more that it stretches. “Gods damn you, you ridiculous—” He pushes into Urianger’s space instead, grabs him by what passes for the collar of his stupid robe. The jewelry that graces Urianger’s every limb tinkles like glass as he braces himself on the table behind him, eyes going suddenly wide, “—talk to me!”
Nothing. He says nothing. Urianger’s gaze shifts to the hand nearly at his throat and then catches on Thancred's lips before their eyes meet. A smile that’s only half in humor twists his mouth, and then, at last, it opens—
And closes without a sound.
